Update: Andy, The Christmas Surprise
It’s now the next Thanksgiving week, 2023. Almost another year of our lives has jetted by since our Christmas Surprise first arrived in the backyard. Andy has become even better. He is still overcoming his early life trauma. It has profoundly impacted him. Andy is showing more of his personality as he grows into adulthood. He had his second birthday this month. He is mostly an outside cat. You can find him in the lanai about half the time and patrolling his turf the other half. Mostly, he chooses to spend the night inside. We’re working on continuing that trend.
The King of Pantomime
He is superior to other cats we’ve had at making his desires known. Andy is the king of pantomime. He is also becoming more vocal. When he wants in, he will jump onto the kitchen window sill and bang his head against the window until the sliding door is opened for him. He stays right by the door waiting to get brushed. It has become his thing! The photo is a link.
There are times when he comes in, then turns around and walks right back out. Other times he walks in the front door, marches through the house to the back door, and asks us to open it. Just wants to say hi, I guess. When he stays in and is ready to go back out, he finds one of us and leads us to the back door. Andy turns back to make sure we’re following him. He often makes cat noises to encourage us that we are doing the right thing! He is the Marcel Marceau of the cat world.
Andy Loves Toby
His relationship with the dog is evolving too. In fact, he loves the dog! The dog, not so much! Andy likes relaxing on all of Toby’s places. We try and get Toby to sit next to him. He is so spoiled! Toby prefers being the only pet. He is warming up to Andy a bit. THis dog has no social skills when it comes to playing though. He’s way too rambunctious for the cat. Andy plays back in his own original way though. He’ll run past Toby and swat him on the ass when Toby is not looking. Andy finds that to be great fun. Toby tries to figure out what just happened.
Andy Takes Walks With Us! (Photo is Link)
Today, we were out for our morning walk. Yeah, Andy has taken to walking with us. Just part of the family! He is easily distracted though. One day, during our journey, Andy came running over to Toby and leaped right over him around his front shoulders. Toby had no clue how to react to that! Andy thought it was hilarious, and so did we. It has happened other times too. It’s a thing with him.
